man mentally exhausted from watching porn

Since ancient times, an erect penis has always been a symbol of man’s sexual prowess and virility. The phallic symbol has been immortalized in art, sculpture, and even architecture. Can you claim to be virile and perform your sexual prowess if you can’t get your Johnson to get up and stay up for the duration of its performance?

Though it is common for older men to experience erectile dysfunction mostly due to their advanced age, the phenomenon was healthy, and supposedly sexually active men find themselves unable to “rise to the occasion” or maintain “boned up” before and during intercourse with their partners or that hot lady on the street, but a total freak in bed.

This can cause frustration not only to the “performer” but to his intended participative audience, or in some instances, audiences. More so if the men afflicted are aged 40 and under.

A source of confusion among medical professionals is that a medical examination reveals nothing wrong. Only after review of a patient’s personal habits reveals a likely culprit that causes the root of the problem – watching too much porn.

You might be scratching your head right now, yes, that one on top of your shoulders not the one below your waist. Has the habit of watching pornography caused your real-world sexual problems when it has been a frequently indulged habit since you were in your teen years? Is there really such a thing as porn-induced erectile dysfunction? Read on and find out.

According to the surveys conducted by the American Urological Association, men addicted to porn are more than likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction and are less likely to be satisfied with sexual intercourse.

Researchers surveyed 312 men between the ages of 20 to 40 and found that 3.4% of the men preferred masturbating to porn over sexual intercourse. However, they concluded that pornography may be only one piece of the puzzle and do not suggest that it is the only explanation. Another concluded that the problem may be rooted in the biology of addiction.

Accordingly, sexual behavior activates the same ‘reward system’ circuitry in the brain as addictive drugs. This can result in recurrent behaviors. Internet porn has been shown as a supernormal stimulus of this circuitry.

Similar to narcotics and addictive drugs, too much porn can raise a person’s tolerance and shun real-world sex in lieu of pornography to achieve release. As more young men are seeking help for erectile dysfunction, a study attributes the problem to the desensitizing effects of indulging in hardcore porn.

Similar to a drug addict who overtime needs to increase their dosage to get high, a porn addict may need to increase their sexual stimulation progressively to remain aroused. However, pornography might change how the brain reacts to arousal making the man less likely to feel aroused by the frustration of the lady in the street, but a freak in bed.

Other Erectile Dysfunction Risk Factors

Age is just one risk factor that may contribute to erectile dysfunction. You must not be complacent and think that your youth will shield you from being a limp noodle. There are other risk factors that must be looked into such as:

  • Obesity
  • Medications
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Medical issues
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Psychological conditions
  • Drug and/or alcohol use
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Smoking and tobacco product use
  • Sedentary lifestyle

Treating Erectile Dysfunction

Commercial advertisements for Viagra (sildenafil) generally feature advanced-aged men. The truth is that a significant number of men affected with erectile dysfunction are barely over the hill. The Journal of Sexual Medicine in a published study reports that one in every new case of erectile dysfunction is of men under the age of 40.

While cases of erectile dysfunctions are being found among men at younger and younger ages, how can you avoid becoming part of the statistic? It begins by recognizing risk factors and doing the necessary steps to correct them, including your consumption of internet pornography.

Having just one or more of the risk factors mentioned above doesn’t mean that you will develop erectile dysfunction. Being aware of these risk factors may help you make positive changes to your lifestyle. So it is also prudent and practical to lay off from your favorite porn site/s for a while and allow your mind and your body re-adjust and relearn to be aroused normally.

In Conclusion

Porn cannot be explicitly defined as being good or bad since not everyone who watches porn is affected in the same way. Erectile dysfunction is something no man ever wants to be afflicted with regardless of age group.
